Protecting Your Investment During the Winter Months

on Nov 20, 2015
Once you are able to find the perfect home, it is important to take the time to protect that investment. As we get closer to the winter months this becomes even more important. The harsh weather can take a toll on our homes during the winter, however there are preventative measures you can take to protect your home before that happens. A great thing you can do before the dead of winter is have your furnace checked by a technician. There is nothing worse that losing heat during a frigid January day. Another simple measure you can take to ensure you home is heated efficiently is to caulk around windows and doors. This prevents your warm air from leaving, and cold air from entering. If your home is older, you may even want to replace window frames that could be decaying.

In addition to the measures you should take inside your home to prepare your house for the winter, there are also various steps you should take outside. After the autumn months it is very important to clear your gutter of any debris before the snow comes. As we know, this can come sooner than later in Michigan, don’t procrastinate! While you’re cleaning the gutters, it is also a good idea to check to make sure none of your shingles are warped or damaged to avoid a future leak.

There are many more tips to prepare your home for the winter, at Live Well Custom Homes we encourage our clients to start this routine the first year in a new home. With preparation your home and family will stay safe and warm even on the coldest winter days.
