In August of 2006, Rick Merlini was chosen by ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition TV show to build a home for the Gilliam family in Armada, Michigan.  To be chosen for the show was a great honor for Rick, as producers for the show look for builders that have the experience, dedication, ingenuity, and genuine care that is required to build a solid home in less than a week. Modifying one of his home designs, the home was completed with the help of over 2,000 trades and volunteers in a record setting 53 hours.

Producers from Extreme Home Makeover expressed their immense respect for Rick Merlini as a builder and person saying that their experience with him was the first time that the builder had to wait for the show to catch up, rather than the other way around.  Rick put his business and life on hold during the show and called in favors to get the house built for the family as soon as possible, showing his genuine care for the community. Rick Merlini and Extreme Home Makeover 

Rick Merlini was chosen to build homes on  ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in 2006 and 2008. A great honor for Merlini, as producers for the show look for builders that have the experience, dedication, ingenuity, and genuine care that is required to build a solid home in less than a week.  The producers on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, felt wholeheartedly that Rick Merlini represented these qualities.

On the show, homes were built on average in 106 hours, however with the leadership of Rick Merlini, him and his team of over 2,000 skilled tradesmen, women and volunteers were able to finish the first home in 2006 in only 53 hours. Not only was the production team for ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover shocked to see that Rick Merlini and his team could build the home so fast, but it was also a high quality job. The executive producer for Extreme Home Makeover said that the house for the Gilliam family was the strongest home they had ever seen for a family, built to that date.
